I have an older computer with an Adaptec 4 port ethernet card which was running 4.6. It's used exclusively as a firewall/router/vpn gateway. Under 4.6, networking would crash after about a week, requiring a reboot. /var/log/messages would contain various instances of "/bsd: WARNING: mclpools limit reached; increase kern.maxclusters".
I just finished an upgrade to 4.7, and now the networking crashes about once a day. Increasing kern.maxclusters only delays this for a while. I suspect either bad hardware or a hardware incompatibility. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this? dmesg: OpenBSD 4.7-stable (GENERIC.MP) #0: Tue Aug 31 17:36:07 PDT 2010 *...@***:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC.MP cpu0: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz ("GenuineIntel" 686-class) 2 GHz cpu0: FPU,V86,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,APIC,SEP,MTRR,PGE,MCA,CMOV,PAT,PSE36,CFLUSH,DS ,ACPI,MMX,FXSR,SSE,SSE2,SS,HTT,TM,SBF,SSE3,MWAIT,DS-CPL,EST,TM2,CX16,xTPR real mem = 1054105600 (1005MB) avail mem = 1012600832 (965MB) mainbus0 at root bios0 at mainbus0: AT/286+ BIOS, date 01/31/08, BIOS32 rev. 0 @ 0xe8dc0, SMBIOS rev. 2. 5 @ 0xea7c0 (69 entries) bios0: vendor Hewlett-Packard version "786F2 v01.04" date 01/31/2008 bios0: Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc5800 Microtower acpi0 at bios0: rev 0 acpi0: tables DSDT FACP APIC ASF!
