The point is, in at least some places/cultures it's impolite to either ask or speculate about another person's income, particularly in an open public forum. Just because Theo has occasionally divulged *some* information about project and/or his finances doesn't mean he's obligated to provide any further details. The posts you linked to were made during a really tough situation, but worse, uninformed people were speculating wildly. Being curious which is better, buying CDs or making donations, is completely normal, but even if you politely asked Theo in private, you might not get an answer. Even if you got an answer, it might not be what you expect... --My all time favorite answer from Theo was: "The choice is yours."
