Espresso Education CEO, Lewis Bronze, awarded ‘Outstanding Achievement’
Award at 2010 Education Resource Awards

At the ERA’s 12th annual ceremony, Lewis Bronze, co-founder and CEO of
Espresso Education, was presented with the industry ‘Outstanding
Achievement Award’. This is awarded to an individual who has given
outstanding service to the education sector.

On behalf of the judges, Ray Barker, BESA’s Director announced: “This
year’s winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award is a man with a
vision. Someone who has transformed the world of learning through his
blending of visual media and interactive resources. Ranging from his work
with the BBC – remember Blue Peter? – to the new world of broadband, he
has been at the forefront of innovation.

Even before electronic learning credits and interactive whiteboards, his
vision created a world of e-learning that is now recognised as the norm
in the majority of primary schools. Please congratulate: Lewis Bronze of
Espresso.”

Lewis, former editor of BBC’s “Blue Peter” & producer of “Newsround”,
co-founded Espresso Education in 1997. He was inspired by the idea of
delivering video news to the classroom that would be regularly updated,
adding meaning and relevance to the curriculum being taught in schools.
The idea soon expanded to include the creation of browser-based,
video-rich, multimedia educational ‘modules’, with video at the ‘heart’
to demonstrate hard-to-teach concepts. Today, over half of England’s
primary schools subscribe annually to the Espresso Primary service, and
almost a quarter of secondary schools subscribe to the company’s Clipbank
service.

Since the establishment of the company, Lewis has worked tirelessly, not
only to the benefit of Espresso but also to advance the ‘best use of ICT’
in classrooms across the UK. Through his passion for education, his
willingness to explore emerging trends and his commitment to working at a
national level with DCSF, Becta and BESA, Lewis has contributed greatly
to shaping the development of ICT in education. Over the last 13 years,
the company has grown substantially and won numerous awards and accolades
both inside and outside the educational industry. Espresso has also
featured three times in the Tech Track 100, the index of fastest-growing
privately held technology companies.

Mr. Bronze states: ‘I am very grateful and surprised to have been
honoured by our industry with the Outstanding Achievement Award. In turn,
I congratulate all my dedicated colleagues, past and present, who have
been on this journey with me. At Espresso, we strive to ensure we bring a
level of content, service and support to our customers that sets a
wonderful standard in the industry. It is simply a privilege to be able
to feed children’s enormous appetite for learning with creative and
innovative materials.

It all adds up: 35 per cent more children attain their targets in maths
A pioneering new software system has been found to significantly raise
pupils’ on-target achievement and increase understanding of mathematics
in trials across 150 UK schools. Initial testing of i-Progress found a 35
per cent increase in on-target attainment, using the latest intuitive and
interactive technology.

The groundbreaking software system was developed by award-winning
educational publisher Rising Stars UK Ltd and educational innovator Alta
Systems and uses sophisticated adaptive technology to raise attainment in
primary and secondary school mathematics. The system is simple to use and
manages the assessment process for teachers, offering greater clarity and
enabling personalised education for all learners.
