thing:

...maybe it really doesn't like running without swap?
Oh wait, it's showing only 3G of memory installed. I just physically
checked the machine, and it has 4 full banks of 2G each. amd64 should be
able to address that, right?
That could certainly explain why fsck is unhappy.
