Was even worse for me here, as although disabling ppb* makes the kernel go slightly further, it has a nasty side effect of disabling scsi controllerl. However, I have just checked out and compiled -current and can confirm the issue is gone - machine booted and all network interfaces are accessible. Many thanks to everyone involved in fixing that!
