If you don't manage the systems, the appropriate action would be to
open a ticket with those that manage the systems to start a dialog
about addressing your needs.

If you've done that and it's a no go for whatever reason...
there's these spiffy things called
dancer's shell
and 
bourne/korn shell for loop
