I had an R51e and now a x31, which both shipped with iwi driven cards, and they *suck*! Even my friends using linux and windows hate them. Also you have to do the firmware dance. I have a ral, which seems to work well as a client, but not in hostap mode so well. Remember if you do want to change the wifi card in a thinkpad, use tpwireless to unlock the bios check.
