Depends on definition of cheap, but I quite like the brother 5250DN, black and white.and fast, duplex, network for $200-$250. I hear their color cousins are just as good. From $300+ to $500 depending on model. And the cartridges apparently can run on fumes (30k or 70k pages for mine, forgot which).
Small, cheap, fast, good, the 5250DN is probably one of the best home printers. Uses "brotherscipt" instead of true postscript, but I've never run into problems.
