Hi misc@,

I've Ralink RT2561S that I've been happily using on OpenBSD4.4-RELEASE
and Ubuntu8.10 (only for LMMS and Youtube, I swear!) for a couple
months now. On Ubuntu I was streaming files from my fileserver when
suddenly my network died. I rebooted into OpenBSD and got no luck
either. Since then the card hasn't worked. There was no power surge
(that I was aware of) and the rest of my box seems fine so I don't
think it's hardware damage. I'm asking here instead of some Ubuntu
forum because I'm sure you'll all know much better ;)

Here's some of the behaviour I'm seeing:

First, I am clearly surrounded by several networks:
$ sudo ifconfig -M uath0

and so on every other time after the first it just scans 'none'.

And I'm getting intermitten `ral0: device timeout` messages on my
console. They are not correlated with scanning.

My best guess is that the firmware has become corrupted.
http://wiki.debian.org/rt61pci suggests that it does have firmware,
but it does it with "All drivers require non-free firmware for their
operation." which seems unlikely to me given that ral(4) is the
always-recommended chipset for their openness. If it is possible the
firmware got corrupted, is there any way I can uncorrupt it?
