The code is respectfully copy & pasted from the old wake(8), written
by Marc Balmer/Eugene M. Kim.
wake was added to the tree for some reason.
it was then removed for some reason.
now we look at what is the best place for this
functionality.
I'd honestly prefer if we could close the wake
discussion for now. we will eventually come
up with a solution.
