Why be worried, other than the nuisance of failed hardware? You've got backups, right?

Besides, if you have a terabyte of data, chances are you have three undetected single-bit or larger errors (http://storagemojo.com/2007/09/19/cerns-data-corruption-research/). That's why SAN systems use checksums (or equivalent), so they can detect errors during a scrub.
