Hi,

sometime between the June 25 snapshot and today something in X changed. Font sizes of some programms (like Konsole, Psi, xclock when using -render) are much larger then before. It also isn't possible to get back to the old look by just selecting a smaller font size.

Since it also happens for xclock when using -render I asume it is not related to KDE/qt.

Only thing I did was updating to the latest snapshot. Sadly I can not provide a before/after screenshot, but here are some infos. Would be nice if anyone has a clue what happened and how to get back to the old look. Currently the Konsole is really useless because it is either way to small (to read) or too large (consuming too much space on screen).

Thanks in advance,

Michael

# cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

xorg really just needs two fonts collections
fonts-misc-misc
cursor-misc
These tend to be located under /usr/local/share/onts or /usr/share/fonts depending on the OSes,
louzy GNU programmers will look there.

Older fixed 75dpi were used on the vga and svga screen, rename the directory.
100dpi ??, hard drive space is ceap and the directory is not that big.

Fwiw, you can install a collection of fonts in a shared directory (or linked from a shared slice or NFS).

On my WS, I have such a link ~./. symlinked from a collection of fonts ttf|otf fonts. You could put such a symlink system-wide in the usual sub-dir /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts

Symlinks into ~/.fonts are tested by default
System wide under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts ... path must be edited in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
