Sometime before 4.2 was released the OpenBSD/macppc bootloader was modified and accidentally disabled the ability to load a kernel from an HFS filesystem. This was not discovered until after 4.3 was released. It should be fixed by the time 4.4 is released. In the meantime, either use the .iso file or try to use a 4.0 or 4.1 ofwboot to load the kernel.
