I don't have any net-snmp configs any more, I removed them when I changed those boxes that want SNMP over to snmpd. For basic monitoring, snmpd does more (e.g. it picks up iface descriptions automatically), needs less configuring, and doesn't crash all the time. Might even use it rather than symon in some places...
