Using -dTextAlphaBits=4 -dGraphicsAlphaBits=4 options of gs should produce smooth images. Note that if the images are scaled by qiv then the result will not be smooth (qiv doesn't do anti-aliasing); so you'll have to force gs to produce images of the right size (see -r option of gs) -- Alexandre
