the point i would like to emphasize, is that there are many ftp mirrors avaiable. one reason (the main reason?, the only reason?) they exist is to provide better performance than is available through the main ftp site. if you spend 5 or 10 minutes doing traceroute(8) to mirrors to find one that is speedy for you, you will save yourself lots of time in the long run doing ftp installs.
