On a few systems I own, enabling ACPI and disabling APM seems to work.... on older systems, I needed to go into my BIOS and disable an option like "PnP OS/Operating system". (By setting it to No/False..)
To try your system with ACPI, at the boot console.. Type the following. UKC> disable apm UKC> enable acpi UKC> quit I hope this works for you..
