I'm not familiar with symon, but you might also want to look at munin: http://munin.projects.linpro.no/ I've not used it with OpenBSD, and it may need some tweaking, but it already supports FreeBSD and NetBSD so it probably wouldn't be hard. Out-of-the-box you get graphing of disk space, CPU utilisation, network interfaces, and a bunch of other useful parameters. It uses a simple plain-text protocol which you can drive easily using telnet. It's also trivial to extend to monitor any other parameters of interest. Regards, Brian.
