Will , PPPoE needs a MTU of 1492 , i had the same problem with other values Give it a try.

I thought I'd try userland ppp because my intuition leads me to believe it may be able to handle odd connection drops etc more robustly. Also I can't work out how to get any kind of logs from kernel pppoe. Will
