Does the BIOS support a CD boot?  On my Dell laptop, I need to hold down F12
to get a boot menu that lets me go from a CD.
Back in the days of steam-powered computers, CD booting was not always
supported.
Possibly you need to investigate a BIOS upgrade merely to get started.
