For my own networks, that's exactly what I do.  

Trouble is, you will encounter networks run by people who haven't seen
the light (yet) and set up using some shiny! expensive! gear the
salesdrone wanted them to have.  That's when you need WPA capability
in your OpenBSD laptop.
