clarification here. this is a bit far fetched i realized. mounting partitions does not change their disklabel. the partition table probably gets corrupted when i "convert" the second fat32 partition to ffs. by that i mean deleting the fat32 and creating an "a" and newfs. i think that because of the "funny" geometry disklabel writes an incorrect partition table. -f -- computers run on smoke. if it leaks out they won't work.
