Hello.

I have just installed OpenBSD 4.0 on my desktop system, but were running
this excellent version of OpenBSD on my soekris for a month or so. As a
difference with the installation on the net4801, my desktop has X.Org,
OpenMotif and Mozilla Firefox:

$ pkg_info
atk-1.10.3p1 accessibility toolkit used by gtk+
cairo-1.0.4p0 vector graphics library
esound-0.2.34p0 sound library for Enlightenment
expat-2.0.0 XML 1.0 parser written in C
gettext-0.14.5p1 GNU gettext
glib2-2.10.3 general-purpose utility library
glitz-0.4.4 OpenGL image compositing library
gtk+2-2.8.20 multi-platform graphical toolkit
hicolor-icon-theme-0.5p0 high-color icon theme shell for GNOME and KDE
jpeg-6bp3 IJG's JPEG compression utilities
libaudiofile-0.2.6p0 SGI audiofile library clone
libiconv-1.9.2p3 character set conversion library
mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.8 redesign of Mozilla's browser component
openmotif-2.1.30.5p1 Motif toolkit
pango-1.12.3 library for layout and rendering of text
png-1.2.12 library for manipulating PNG images
tiff-3.8.2p0 tools and library routines for working with TIFF images

I have just observed that there are some packages that install files
in /etc. I certainly would expect some changes in /var/db/pkg as
PKG_DBDIR is not set but... files in /etc? Now there is a /etc/pango
directory and an /etc/esd.conf file at least. Is it my fault or these
files must really be in /etc? I suppose that these configuration files
should be in a directory like /usr/local/etc instead. This directory does
not exist on my desktop system, but seems a reasonable place to store
configuration files related with the ports subsystem.

Did I some mistake when installing these applications?

Cheers,
Igor.
