I'd agree with that. It is pretty easy to leverage classes to do the work of getting everything to one place (convergence), although if you're not careful you'll end up maintaining many similar but slightly different configurations :) Monit is surprisingly powerful as well; don't let its simple syntax fool you. I'm evaluating possibly replacing cfengine with monit (and we make extensive use of cfengine). With some thought I think it may be quite possible.
