If by 'vendor-written drivers' you mean binary-only drivers, then no, the
linux kernel developers emphatically do not accept them. They would much
prefer that all vendors release open source drivers, since (amongst other
things) if they do, that means they (the LKD's) will be responsible for
making sure that when the device driver ABI changes, all open-source drivers
are rewritten and recompiled to work with that version of the kernel.
Nope, definitely not binary-only ... I meant source code drivers provided
by a vendor, and supported by them ... apologies if I gave the impression
that "binary-only drivers" where acceptable :(
