I can't provide you an answer for sure other then. Go at 3.9, don't stop at 3.8:

On a new box just turn up a few hours ago:

 2:54PM  up 12:36, 1 user, load averages: 0.44, 0.40, 0.34

When you spend time upgrade and that's a good thing, just don't stop half way, but go all the way. (;>
