It's recommended to use packages as long as you don't need any extra
options from what I can recall from FAQ.

man pkg_add

then "sudo pkg_add
ftp://ftp.su.se/pub/OpenBSD/3.9/packages/i386/vim-6.4.6p1-no_x11.tgz";
note, it's 3.9 package and for i386 arch.

if you want gvim use the package without "-no-X11".
