I'd like to take the opportunity to report on my own experience how I was able to raise some funds for OpenSSH. Actually, because of one of Theo's recent posts a la "do something" here, I felt touched somehow but wasn't quite sure how _I_ could help in the first place. After a few days of contemplating over it, I decided to write a friendly but determined letter directly to the CIO's of University of Zurich and of ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich) - and guess what: there feedback was rather positive. ETH will donate 1000$ and the University even allowed me to send a mass mailing to all CIO's of the connected Institutes (of which we are one of, too) to ask for even more money. Though the process of getting some bucks together is still ongoing, it looks like I managed to get a few thousand Swiss Francs together. One may think this is not much for such a rich country, but keep in mind we're talking about tax money. I don't post this here to be seen as a hero (other's are ;) ) but I did want to emphasize how astonishingly easy it is to help - at least sometimes. Thanks for Open{BSD|SSH} and thanks for the 'real' openness. -- Stephan A.
