I've heard a lot about those Symantec firewall machines (that cost
something around 15000$-30000$). In fact I don't know many details, just
that customers are pleased to give the money and say that they're safe
behing that Symantec machine.
Good for them. I would simply suggest this simple 5 steps if I may.
1. Take 2K from that, go by yourself a very good hardware pick from the
lists here:
http://openbsd.org/amd64.html
Some are better then others, but do your homework, it's fun.
2. Then take 20K from the same put above and go here:
http://openbsd.org/donations.html
3. Then take $50 and by any software from Symantec so that you get nice
original logo and stick it on top of the hardware pick in step 1 above.
4. Take what ever amount you can drink and by yourself a few barrel of
beer as you will have plenty of free time to drink then.
5. Takes what left of it and give it back to the customer and tell them
you saved them 5K to 10K and you will be the hero for them.
Optional steps in the future. Repeat the above and adjust the amount for
upgrade and customers fuzzy feeling and you will be a repeated Hero
again! (:>
Of course, I encountered people that were
very happy with these systems, but I think they never had a major attack
or something. Just out of curiosity, can OpenBSD do what Symantec does?
I don't know CAN Symantec do everything that OpenBSD CAN DO!
To be or not to be!
That is the question!
Is Symantec's encryption better than that included in OpenBSD (I must
mention that I live in Europe, maybe US export laws apply)?
Not relevant, OpenBSD IS from Canada:
http://openbsd.org/goals.html
Does
Symantec worth all this money?
Only you can answer that, but OpenBSD IS sure worth every penny! So, go
here and buy a few CD:
http://openbsd.org/orders.html
On the other hand, I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, Symantec
uses a modified version of OpenSSL on these machines. Is this possible?
Asked Symantec, but is it OpenSSL, or may be OpenSSH?

And note the bottom left column as well. That may give you a clue as to
what to do next.
