Not necessarily - finished projects and stuff that won't change anymore can be
archived separately and taken out of the regular backup loop.

Then you just keep a copy of that unchanging data on a separate read-only disk
partition for quick access, and have the backup tapes or discs stored away,
hopefully never used.

Your weekly, (or whatever), backups are then reduced to, any 'work in
progress'.

This approach often makes restoring somewhat quicker and easier as well.
