Just to recap, due to the above ssh client behavior reoccuring both in Mate-terminal both in xfce-terminal inside Mate (without xenodm as per my usual) I'm ready to end up to return to Xfce stick again.
Playing with the suggested env variables (specified in the man) gave no meaningful change to me. Beside these facts I'm not in conditions to say if the manifested problem is related just to the OpenBSD port.
