And with these ~/.Xdefaults (and if you add the utf settings),
does spectrwm start an xterm that displays those characters OK?

I forced utf-8 in Xdefaults with :
XTerm*locale: UTF-8
XTerm*vt100.locale: false
XTerm*vt100.utf8: true
And it is still the same. For information, when I push ctrl + right
click, I have the option for UTF8 checked.
