For the archives: I finaly solved this with set boot-file /pci@f4000000/ata-6@d/disk@0:/bsd reset-all
in ofwboot. I think I confused the machine years ago by ripping out the CD drive, no longer needed after OpenBSD booted from the HDD: since then, ofwboot thought disk@1 was as the HDD, and disk@0 the CD - exactly what Miod said in 2012 (heh): https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=135655533107347&w=2 The kernel seems to be confused just like it was back then: it will e.g. report a "line too long" in a nonexistent boot.conf (see the old posts). Anyway, now it boots from the actual HDD = disk@0 (as opposed to disk@1 like when I had a CD drive = disk@0). Lesson learned: when you fsck with old macppc hardware, you have to fix the ofwboot settings. Duh.
