Hi misc@,

My ASUS Sabertooth X58 mobo has issues cos my acpiec device and onboard
sound card went kaput. Since the acpiec device is fried, my system would
occasionally completely freeze up during use. The fix for these issues
was to disable the acpiec device with config(8) and UKC, and to use a
dedicated USB audio card instead of the onboard. But- this is not a
good solution as that breaks syspatch(8)'s auto reorder_kernel and makes
me have to manually reorder_kernel every time I install a system patch.

...Not Ideal.

In hopes I can keep most of my same hardware I've been keeping an eye
out for a replacement X58 mobo or similar. Which is why I come here.

Here's the situation:
Since I got a gen 1 i7 (and don't want to/ can't get a new CPU) I don't
have many options that support the LGA 1366 Socket. I'm also quite
strapped for cash, although this can change very soon next month.

What I need out the machine:
All I want out of this system is to be a desktop workhorse. I don't
need crazy stuff, I do some *very* light gaming of my various
PangeaSoft ports and STK, but most of the time I'm just browsing the
web, programming in Emacs, or reading this list. It should also have a
supported onboard audio card so I don't need to use my USB card
workaround. And- obviously, I'd be running OpenBSD on it.

The hardware I have, and hope can be supported:
- CPU: i7 960
- Memory: 6x4gb 3 channel DDR3 Kingston ram sticks
(which is probably overkill, but whatever)
- Storage:
  - 512gb SATA SSD for everything but /home
  -1tb SATA SSD for /home
- Graphics: AMD FirePro WX210
- NIC(s): PCI-risen Intel ac 7265 wireless card. I also want to have
onboard ethernet as an option too (although that is pretty common on
mobos of this era as I understand it).

Ideally the mobo I get should be able to support these devices. I
haven't built a PC in quite some time, and as such, my knowledge is
lacking in this department. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Any ideas/tips/suggestions?

Thanks-
