Retrospective:
I just come from upgrading to 7.6 and switching between different behaviours of similar systems I realized that the Noto-CJK was probably missing on my station and this clearly could make SCIM quite unhappy. Actually, I can't be sure that this was the root cause of the hanging because meanwhile I uninstalled SCIM too.
