I had similar issues with a X201 and it happened to be the CMOS battery, once replaced everything worked fine again.
However it wasn't obvious at all, it seems the low CMOS battery corrupts some kind of BIOS memory map and that causes weird behaviour, for example constant reboots with the thinklight turning on and off, or internal disk not being recognised until you remove the both the laptop battery and CMOS battery.
