Switches often remember which ports a MAC was seen on, not which MACs were seen on each port. Not what you might first expect, but I think the common failover protocols would work differently otherwise. Also I think this way makes them quicker to respond when a device moves to a new port. If it doesn't work for you, mention which switches you're trying so others can avoid them :)
