Quick answer: $ cat some-file > /dev/audio

If you hear something then you have sound. If you get "device not configured" then you don't.


Well, "cat dmesg.boot > /dev/audio" did indeed cause sound to come out, both from my laptop's speakers, and from the headphone jack. Very interesting...

Okay... well, the sound card works. Now, it must be something I am doing wrong.
