I faced the same problem with my new APU2 just yesterday and found more info here: https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=158680303103003&w=2 It seems like 11a is really much better than 11g on athn right now. I'm getting ca. 16-20Mbit/s now (but the bottleneck might be the iwm driver on my laptop). On a side note: I thought channel 1 was a 2.4GHz channel [1]. I'm surprised it works for you.
