I am trying to use carp in a high availability cluster with an i386 and
an amd64 machine and OpenBSD 3.8. Most of the time, everything is
working fine, but occasionally on the i386 machine I get:

Feb 22 21:24:12 host386 /bsd: carp0: incorrect hash

I have switched out network cards, moved the cards to different slots,
checked cables, switches, upgraded from 3.6 to 3.8, and even used a
straight crossover cable, but still have the problem. On the i386, I
have:

$ netstat -s -p carp
carp:
        158488 packets received (IPv4)
        0 packets received (IPv6)
0 packets discarded for bad interface
0 packets discarded for wrong TTL
                0 packets shorter than header
                0 discarded for bad checksums
0 discarded packets with a bad version
0 discarded because packet too short
                19 discarded for bad authentication
                0 discarded for bad vhid
0 discarded because of a bad address list
        0 packets sent (IPv4)
        0 packets sent (IPv6)
0 send failed due to mbuf memory error

$ netstat -ivn | grep carp
carp0* 1500 <Link> 00:00:5e:00:01:01 157339 19 0
0 0
carp0* 1500 192.168.5/24 192.168.5.10 157339 19 0
0 0

The amd64 machine has no errors. As you can see from the above stats,
authentication usually (by far) works. This only happens on the i386
machine. What else can I look at to try to fix this?

Thanks,

Jamie
