No matter how often we tell people "you can't do that without consequences"
there is always someone who tries.

Upgrades that move forward work.  Upgrades that go backwards, will break
in unanticipated ways.

Step back for a second.  Do you think any of our developers ever do this?
No.  So why do you think you are in the clear?
