This is most probably caused by mpd running as a different user as you, in turn not having access to your ~/.sndio/cookie, needed to connect to sndiod while you're using it. You could either run mpd as your user-id or give the _mpd user access to your audio session by copying your ~/.sndio/cookie into _mpd's home directory.
