got Ubuntu installed on a notebook, installed lmms, connected the system-1
to it via MIDI-to-USB. Similar as under OpenBSD, some notes don't play, others
have wrong pitch, or only play after second or third push of the note.

Thanks for all the hints, but in the end at least that cable seems to be
just broken.
