I tested it with 3.8 AMD64 and then 3.8 i386. > can you give a try to i386 (not amd64) fresh snap plz? I loaded the i386 snapshot from 24 Jan 06 and it had the same final error. It also gave during the boot: biomask 0 netmask 0 ttymask 0 ioapic0: pin 3 shares different IPL interrupts (40..50), degraded performance ioapic0: pin 5 shares different IPL interrupts (40..90), degraded performance pctr: user-level counter enabled apm0: disconnected wd0(pciide2:0:0): timeout type: ata c_bcount: 512 c_skip: 0 wd0(pciide2:0:0): timeout type: ata c_bcount: 512 c_skip: 0 > > is there any kind of pci irq setting in the bios maybe? > can you please reset all to defaults (just in case) and retry? > The PCI IRQ settings can be changed in the bios, they are set to auto by default, and still are. Turning on and off PnP in the bios also made no difference. Installing on a IDE HDD with the SATA HDD still connected resulted in a failed boot with the same error as well. Installing on a IDE HDD with the SATA HDD *disconnected* removed the error and it came up as normal. This is with i386 24 Jan 06 snapshot. Removing the first SATA HDD changes the error to pciide2:1:0 as would be expected. I have tested the disks with Western Digitals software and it does not show any problems. They work with a single CPU so this is not suprising. Thanks for your help. -- Nich
