You might have better luck with -current from today, where this driver now uses newer and actively maintained open source firmware. However, I can still reproduce device timeouts easily by running tcpbench through an AR9271 in hostap mode. I don't know yet what's causing the problem. I could not yet trigger this problem on my AR7010 device. An AR9271 device with firmware serial console would be useful for debugging, for instance: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/ALFA_Network_AWUS036NHA
