I thought that the Berne convention said that anything you make (or perhaps just anything you publish? But that's a technicality since showing a friend your code could count as publishing) is automatically copyright'd by you. Putting copyright notice is just that: a notice. It's helpful in enforcing your copyright if the issue comes up, but it's not required. -Nick
