$ man nvi
man: No entry for nvi in the manual.

It is not vi(1)'s job to copy between terminals (or emulators). 
You can copy to clipboard by *just* selecting text with the mouse left
button. Use mouse middle button to paste to other xterm(1). Do not
forget to start input mode first for vi(1).
For all further prolems see ports/packages: autocutsel, xclip.
For further entertainment and training enable ksh(1)'s vi mode 
(set -o vi) :-)
(For further education read up on when vi(1) spawned and when the idea
of a clipboard was invented.)
