Hello Stuart, sorry for answering late.
Have ifconfig -A when device is up and down, netstat -rn and the relevant dmesg (Toshiba H5321gw is OEM Ericsson) Did not set default gw in that protocol. But tried with route add default 10.23.132.66 or route add default -link umb0. Nothing worked to ping to internet addresses. resolv.conf contains the 2 nameservers shown at umb0 device. Removed hostname.umb0 beforehand. At the moment it works well for me to use pppd/chat with ppp0 to connect to the internet. What do I do wrong? Other question: In case the nameservers from the provider change, do I have to change them myself in resolv.conf or is there some magic with umb0, that the nameservers find there way to the resolv.conf (like with dhclient)? Even with default gateway .... That is for PPP and is only used for the connection to the dongle itself, it is not passed to the network. Did you add a default route pointing to the umb interface? It would be useful to show 'ifconfig -A' and 'netstat -rn'.
