You'd be much better using Xen; I'd recommend using the latest version with a Linux dom0 (I know, but it has the most functionality), but you can use a NetBSD dom0 if you wish - it does support passthrough as does bhyve on FreeBSD (haven't tried).
I presume you don't need GPU passthrough - if you do, KVM is your best bet, although Xen can work, with the right hardware.
