Extract from the rc.subr man page: <...> Apart from a few notable exceptions, rc scripts must follow this naming policy: <...> 2. Dashes (‘-’) have to be converted to underscores (‘_’). You should read both rc.d and rc.subr man pages. Also, usually it's easier to just link to the original rc.d script instead of copying it, so that you can benefit from updates to the original script. -- Antoine
